Mom memories

Today brings a new challenge at Scrapping Everyday Miracles - Challenge #16 and it is all about moms.

Our May Challenge is to create a project that is inspired by our Mothers. How have you been blessed by your mother? What everyday miracles have you missed in the past but see clearly now? Some of us may not know our mothers, but have had mother figures about whom our project can be focused upon. Maybe you're thinking to yourself my relationship with my mother is nothing to be celebrated. We believe that even if that is the case God wants to meet you there through this challenge, so please don't lose heart and keep reading after the DT layouts to hear how one of our very own design team members handled that exact situation.
Every challenge at SEM has a scrap twist that participants need to have on their layouts in order to complete the challenge so for the May challenge our scrap twist is....

Scrap twist: Use a page from a book (can be any book, novel, dictionary, etc.)
Here is the layout I created using my favorite technique - fussy cutting and some Fabulous Simple Stories!
Materials Used:  Simple Stories, book page, Martha Stewart
I love my collections of Simple Stories and totally hate to cut up the papers, but because of the wonderful element sheets that are included in each collection I can cut to my hearts content!  :)  I cut the birds/cloud/wire and strips under the picture from the 2x12 border and 4x12 Title strip elements page #2114 (I couldn't bring myself to cut the All about me page!).  The title "ME" came from the 4x6 Journaling card elements #1 page #2110.  The tags and butterfly came from the 4x4 quote and 6x8 photo mat elements page #2113.  My main page was based on the Kraft Grid page #2120 - of course I have another one of these sheets so I can also use the typewriter font on the other side!
Here are some close-ups of my fussy cut elements:

I've had such fun with my Fabulous collection from Simple Stories and especially the element pages!  You can see a card and a few layouts I made here, another layout here and here

Make sure you stop by Memorable Seasons this week for a week long celebration of National Scrapbook Day - we've got challenges and prizes galore!

Scrapping Everyday Miracles challenge

Can you believe it is April?  Where is 2012 going?  It is so warm and sunny here and has been for almost a month now - I'm looking forward to the month and all that might happen, how about you?

So this month we were asked to scrap about the funny things people say for the challenge at Scrapping Everyday Miracles

Do you have people in your life that have made you laugh over things they've said, like maybe an uncle with a great sense of humor? Have your kids said things that made you laugh, and even long after it's said, you still giggle about it? If you answered yes to either of those questions then you're going to like this challenge!

I think God has given us a sense of humor because He knew there would be days that we'd need a good laugh and He also placed people in our lives to provide that chuckle! This month's challenge is asking you to create a project that focuses on the people in your life that brighten your day with their silly side. More specifically, the funny things they say. It can be something they've said once or something they say on a regular basis. The beauty of this challenge is that you don't have to have a particular photo of the person doing something funny, all you need is a photo of the person who's made the funny comment. The journaling will tell the story!

So let's have some fun showing how God has blessed us with the humorous things the people in our lives have said and in so doing, provides the laughter we need to brighten our days!

Scrap twist: Use baker's twine on your project.

Sponsor:  A gift certificate to Scrapbook Circle!

So here is the layout I created about our son - I wanted to document this stage as he is growing up so quickly and already moving on to new things.

Materials Used:  My Minds Eye, Pebbles, Maya Rd, Sizzix
The journaling reads:  So we have a 2 almost 3 year old in the house, by the name of Vinny Cenzo as his Mommy likes to call him.  Well this little man has spent the last few months naming, or maybe I should say renaming our family members to his liking.  Besides the paci hanging out of his mouth, almost like a cigar, making him appear like a mini mobster and muffling his chatter, our little boy has taken our nicknames and totally revamped them until they will never be the same!

Scrapping Everyday Miracles Challenge #14

Today brings our March challenge at Scrapping Everyday Miracles and it is a wonderful challenge!  THIS IS ME . . . in one word!!

We want you to do a layout all about who you are, but the title of your layout must be the word that you think describe you the most right now! Just being who you are, are a miracle in itself! Often we look at the things around us, and we see God working in our lives, but sometimes we just need to sit and think "Who am I, what are my talents, my personality, my likes and dislikes." This month it's all about YOU!
SCRAP TWIST: We want to see the person behind the layout, so please use a photo of yourself and journaling to tell us who you are! It would be fun if you scraplift yourself as well.
Here is what I created:
Materials Used:  American Crafts, Hambly, Fiskar
My journaling reads:  I am rock-solid, steadfast.  I have been given a race to run and I can't afford to become distracted.  I have a calling given to me by my Lord and Savior and I will not waver.  I am the house built on the rocks - and even though trials have come my hope remains in the God of my salvation.  It is hard at times to hold so tightly to a dream - there are moments of weakness and confusion, but God!  When I am weak, He is strong and more than able to keep me on the path set infront of me.

I was looking through my stash of paper trying to find the perfect paper to use when I found this map paper from American Crafts and it fit.  You see, even though I am rock-solid, I have experienced many changes, especially over the past few years.  I don't always like change and it does take me awhile to process at times, but as long as my foundation is steady and built on the rock I am able to fully grasp all the changes that occur on a day to day basis.

I wish that I could say I have some wonderful fun word that describes me, but I have always been the person you can count on.  When I give you my word I will follow through no matter what.  I have had discipline and determination ground into my being due to my training as a violinist which has had tremendous influence on me today.  So I can embrace who I really am or I can try to imitate others, so I choose for myself to embrace the way the Lord has made me.  What about you, who are you?

Our generous sponsor for this month is Dot & Whimsy!

The wonderful prize Shellye is offering to our winner is a bundle of crepe paper Fringe.

All you have to do is complete the challenge and link it up by March 31st.
